Hey beautiful human,
What is Turner Syndrome?
Turner Syndrome (TS) is a genetic condition that affects approximately 1 in 2,500 females. It occurs when one of the X chromosomes is partially or completely missing, leading to various physical and developmental differences. Women with TS may experience short stature, infertility, and other health challenges. However, with proper medical care and support, individuals with Turner Syndrome lead full, successful lives.
Why I'm Writing These Blogs
I'm writing this blog series to raise awareness about Turner Syndrome and share my personal journey. Living with TS comes with unique challenges, but it's also taught me resilience and strength. Through these blogs, I hope to connect with others who have TS, educate those who don't, and create a supportive community where we can all learn from each other's experiences.
For more information and resources, visit my website: http://TSandMe.comHi there! Thank you for taking the time to read this blog. My name is Teisha, I'm 25 years old, born in the UK. I was first diagnosed with TS at 14. It was a complete shock. What stuck with me most was being told I couldn't have children naturally. That was all I could hear. Now, almost 12 years later, I've realized there's no pressure to have a child. However, should I want children in the future, there are options available to me.
I always thought I had to follow some kind of norm—that by 25, I should be married and start a family. But what I've learned is that everyone is on a different journey in life. So don't be afraid to be different. If you get diagnosed with TS, just remember there are so many options and so much help available to you. Reach out, learn to embrace your diagnosis, and love life.
My Treatment Journey
After my diagnosis, I began growth hormone injections to help with my height. I won't lie—it was daunting at first. The idea of giving myself injections regularly felt overwhelming, especially as a teenager. But it became part of my routine, and I learned that taking control of my treatment was empowering. The injections helped me gain a few extra inches, but more importantly, they taught me discipline and self-care. It showed me that managing TS is about being proactive with your health and working closely with your medical team. Every person's treatment journey is different, and that's okay. What matters is finding what works for you and staying committed to your wellbeing.
A Bit More About Me
When I'm not working on TSandMe, you'll find me staying active and taking care of myself. I love swimming—it makes me feel balanced and stress-free, which is so important when managing the health aspects of TS. The gym is also a big part of my routine; it's great for my overall health and helps me keep my weight in check, which can be a challenge with Turner Syndrome.
I'm an avid reader too! I particularly love journalist memoirs and autobiographies—there's something powerful about reading real people's stories and journeys. It reminds me that we all have our own unique paths.
For downtime, I'm partial to quiz shows and lifestyle vlogs. My go-to YouTubers are Zoella, ThatcherJoe, and Alfie Deyes—I love their positive energy! And yes, I'll admit it: I enjoy a good old Starbucks run, especially for a caramel frappuccino. It's the little things that bring joy, right?
My Vision for TSandMe
My hope for this community is to create a safe space where people with Turner Syndrome can come together, educate themselves, and know they are never alone. Above all, I want to raise awareness about TS—not just about the medical side, but about thriving with this condition.
Part of that is helping you feel your best, inside and out. Living with TS can affect our skin, hair, and overall appearance, and I want TSandMe to be a place where you can find recommendations for beauty and skincare products that help you stay nourished, revitalized, and healthy. Self-care isn't vanity—it's about feeling confident and taking care of yourself holistically.
Whether you're newly diagnosed, have been living with TS for years, or are supporting someone with the condition, this is your community. Together, we can share experiences, lift each other up, and show the world that our difference truly is our light.
Stay tuned for more blogs where I'll dive deeper into living with Turner Syndrome, treatment options, and navigating life's challenges.
Fly Boldly,
Teisha
My difference is my light
